Poster competition makes a splash

20 October 2016

Budding artists across the region have excelled in Wannon Water’s annual National Water Week Poster Competition.

A record 490 students from across the south-west worked with the theme of “Water – Life – Growth”, producing some colourful pieces of art.

Wannon Water’s Education Officer, Catherine Grist said the poster competition was an opportunity for schools to further investigate water-related themes in their curriculum.

“The poster competition is an annual event teachers can work into their planning,” Mrs Grist said.

“This year’s theme highlights the importance of water in sustaining life and also its importance for the future.”

“We have had a record number of entries, from all over the south-west, including Balmoral, Koroit, Warrnambool, Woolsthorpe, Hamilton, Portland and Tarrington.”

Successful entries in the local competition share a prize-pool worth over $1000. In addition to individual prizes, the winning students’ schools also receive a gardening pack.

Successful regional entries were also forwarded on to the state-wide VicWater poster competition, with Cameron Edge from Portland North Primary School taking out the coveted Year 5/6 state prize, in addition to his regional prize. For his efforts, Cameron won more than $600 worth of prizes.

The Wannon Water competition was also proudly supported by Southern Rural Water and the Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority.
