Water storage tank undergoes refurbishment

10 July 2018

Wannon Water is refurbishing its water storage tank in Mortlake as part of an ongoing commitment to provide reliable service for customers.

The $235,000 project involves recoating the interior of the tank which is located in Cairnlea Lane.

Project manager Pabitra Joshi said the tank, which was built in 1984, is the primary drinking water storage for the town and has a capacity of 3.4 million litres.

The tank has been taken offline while the refurbishment takes place. Work began at the start of July and is expected to take about four months to complete.

“As a result, the Mortlake water supply system will be operating at lower storage levels during this period,” Mr Joshi said.

“Wannon Water will make every effort to ensure a secure water supply is available at all times, however this will depend on unplanned interruptions such as burst water mains.

“The supply might also be impacted if the Country Fire Authority needs to draw water from a fireplug during an emergency incident in the town,” Mr Joshi said.

“We have notified our major customers about the potential for unscheduled interruptions. We would also like to thank members of the Mortlake community for their patience while this essential project is completed.”
