ALTERNATE DAYS are enforceable under Stage 2 which means:
- For odd-numbered properties, water on odd-numbered days of the month.
- For even-numbered or un-numbered properties, water on even-numbered days of the month.
- All properties can be watered on the 31st day of the month.
- All hoses used must be fitted with a trigger nozzle.
Residential and Commercial Gardens & Lawns
- Watering lawn areas - by any means at any time is not permitted.
Gardens
- Garden areas (other than lawn) may be watered by a manual watering system between the hours of 6:00am and 8:00am and between the hours of 8:00pm and 10:00pm, using the 'alternate days' system.
- Garden areas (other than lawn) may be watered by an automatic watering system between the hours of midnight and 4:00am, using the 'alternate days' system.
- A hand-held hose, watering can or bucket can be used at any time.
Vehicles
- Wash and rinse from a bucket filled directly from a tap.
- Use of a high pressure water cleaning device is allowed.
- Use of a commercial car wash is permitted.
Hard Surfaces (Paving, Concrete etc)
- A hand-held hose may only be used where cleaning is required as a result of an accident, fire, health hazard, safety hazard or other emergency.
- For construction or renovation work to a hard surface, a high pressure water cleaning device must be used.
Building Facade or Window
- Water must not be used unless a bucket filled directly from a tap is used.
- A hand-held hose can be used where cleaning is required as a result of an accident, fire, health hazard or other emergency.
- For construction or renovation work a high pressure water cleaning device must be used.
Swimming Pool or Spa (Residential or Commercial)
- New or existing pools or spas of less than 2000 litres capacity may be filled.
- New or existing pools or spas of greater than 2000 litres capacity must not be filled except in accordance with a Water Conservation Plan approved by Wannon Water.
- An existing pool or spa must not be topped up except by means of a hand-held hose.

Greywater
Greywater (from baths, showers, hand basins and washing machines) can be a good water resource during times of drought and water restrictions, but its reuse can carry health and environmental risks. Greywater can be reused following a few simple steps. For more information on the use of grey water, see the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) website.
70+ Exemption
For households with a resident ages 70 years or more, a general exemption applies to enable gardens to be watered by a hand held hose or manual dripper system on the alternate watering days between 8am and 10am, or 6pm and 8pm.
