Konongwootong Community Day

Wannon Water invites you to join us for a FREE community day at the Konongwootong Reservoir.

Come along and join in the fun while exploring what the reservoir has to offer. We will have a fishing competition, kids’ fishing clinic, live fish release, barbecue lunch, information stand, giveaways and more.

Konongwootong Reservoir, north of Coleraine, is recognised for its indigenous heritage and is a popular site for fishing, walking, bird watching and passive recreation.

Koonongwootong Community Day 01

What is happening?

Fishing competition

  • Open from 10am to 1:30pm.
  • The individual who catches the longest fish in each of the below categories will win a fishing rod & reel combo and a Wannon Water prize pack.
  • Casterton Angling Society volunteers will be supporting Wannon Water to run the fishing competition.
  • All participants need to register upon arrival.
  • A short presentation for the winners will take place after the completion of the competition.

    • Adult male

    • Junior male (16 and under)
    • Junior female (16 and under)

Information stands

  • Wannon Water and the Victorian Fisheries Authority will have information stands with friendly staff available to speak to on the day.

 Kids’ fishing clinic

  • The Casterton Angling Society will be running a kids’ fishing clinic. A number of fishing rods will be available for kids to borrow.

Fish stocking

  • The Victorian Fisheries Authority will conduct a fish stocking of more than 500 Rainbow Trout to provide enhanced recreational fishing opportunities for anglers.

Food and drink

  • Lions Club of Coleraine volunteers will be running a free barbecue.
    • 10am – 11:30am – Bacon and egg rolls
    • 11:30am – 2pm – Sausages and burgers
    • Limited vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available
    • Wannon Water will have a water station available for people to refill water bottles. We encourage people to ‘Be Smart Choose Tap’ and bring their own water bottles.

FAQs

How do I get there?

Konongwootong Reservoir is located 11 kilometres north of Coleraine via the Edenhope-Coleraine Road. Click here for a map. The main entry points are off Reservoir Road, along the southern side of the site.

Is there parking available?

Parking is available on site for all car and boat trailer parking. Please follow the marked signs to the designated site. A short walking track joins the car park and event site. To view the site map, click here.

Can I bring my boat?

The reservoir is suitable for electric powerboats, canoes and kayaks. Boats with petrol combustion engines, water-skiing, motorcycling and camping are NOT permitted. There will be limited access to the boat ramp during the event due to public safety in the area. If you wish to launch your boat from the ramp, we suggest that you do so prior to the event starting at 10am and park your trailer in the designated area. To view the site map, click here.

What can I bring?

  • Picnic rug or chair
  • Fishing equipment (a small amount of fishing rods will be available for the kids’ fishing clinic)
  • Water bottle to stay hydrated
