Hickford Parade Sewer Replacement

Works to replace a section of sewer main adjacent to Warrnambool’s Hickford Parade have been completed.

The Hickford Parade Sewer Replacement Project involved the replacement of a 620-metre section of sewer main at a cost of $250,000.

Wannon Water also took the opportunity to increase the size of the sewer main to cater for increased sewage flows from future development east of the Hopkins River.

West Portland sewerage scheme

Construction phase

Wannon Water awarded the construction contract for the West Portland Sewerage Scheme to local contractor CJ Andrew Plumbing & Excavation. The scheme is expected to be operational in Winter 2014.
More than 250 West Portland residents will benefit from an efficient and reliable sewerage network, solving health and environmental problems resulting from septic tank sullage run-off.

The State Government's $767,443 Small Towns Water Quality grant will be entirely passed on to landowners, seeing each landowner's contribution cut substantially by $5,770 per property.

Portland Sewage Treatment Plant

This new $13.5 million upgrade, Wannon Water’s largest ever investment in Portland, was officially opened on 21 March 2014.

The plant has improved the treatment of sewage and caters for future growth in Portland.
The new plant is a Intermittent Decanted Extended Aeration (IDEA) treatment plant, which Wannon Water constructed on the previous treatment plant site.

IDEA technology is a proven innovative and sustainable solution for treating sewage, boasting a strong environmental performance record and low operating risks. The technology is used successfully at the Warrnambool Sewage Treatment Plant.
The upgrade has improved the plant's compliance with Wannon Water's EPA corporate licence and increased the capacity of the plant to accommodate the needs of a growing community.
Portland representatives played an important role in helping to determine the most appropriate sewage treatment solution and in helping Wannon Water understand the views and priorities of the Portland community.
