Bushfires and your water supply
Be Prepared
This fire season, the Country Fire Authority (CFA) has identified parts of our service region as high fire danger areas.
We’re prepared for bushfires in the region and have plans in place to protect our water supplies.
However, town water systems are only designed to cope with everyday drinking water needs. During a bushfire emergency these can be under an extreme load. There is also the potential that our infrastructure can be damaged, meaning we can’t guarantee normal water pressure or an uninterrupted water supply.
Stay safe this fire season
We recommend that when preparing a fire plan for your property, you consider having an independent water supply instead of relying on mains water.
If you are leaving your property on days that have been declared an extreme or catastrophic fire danger rating, please turn off any sprinklers hooked to the town water supply and don’t leave any taps running.
On days of significant fire risk, ensure you have a supply of drinking water available. Fill up several large containers and place them in the fridge or a cool place, or fill your bathtub in case of loss of supply. We recommend at least 10 litres per person as a minimum.
