With nearly 3000 kilometres of water and sewerage pipes across the region, an ongoing maintenance and renewal program is a major part of our core business.
To minimise disruption as much as possible, we commonly use a method where existing sewer pipes are left in place and re-lined, rather than being dug up and replaced.
How does the process work?
Our contractors strengthen and repair the damaged sections by winching a resin-saturated felt tube in the existing sewer main. This is then steam-cured so it hardens and creates a strong ‘pipe-within-a-pipe’.
Is there any impact on nearby properties?
People in the nearby area may notice some steam and a resin-like odour while the process is taking place. The odour smells like new plastic, is safe and dissipates very quickly.
Some properties have sewer access points inside their boundaries and we’ll need to access them as part of the work. In this case, we’ll give you plenty of notice in writing.
The entire process is completed within a few hours and with minimal impact to residents. It avoids the need for large-scale excavation and replacement, therefore minimising disruptions for residents and businesses.
