What’s happening?

The production bore at the Port Campbell Water Treatment Plant off Lord Street was drilled in 1996. The bore is now halfway through its expected lifespan. To provide additional security of supply, we’re installing a second bore.

We’ll complete the work in two stages:

  1. Drilling the bore hole.
  2. Building the bore head and pump works.

What you’ll notice

You might notice an increase in noise and traffic when construction starts, particularly during the drilling. We’ll be installing a noise barrier to reduce impacts on the surrounding area.

Temporary pipeline

At the end of stage one, the bore will be developed. This process removes groundwater and natural sediment from the bore.

The groundwater is cloudy and silty as it starts coming out of the bore, but will gradually become clear as we continue the flushing process.

We’ll be installing a temporary pipeline to dispose of this development water. It will extend for 2.5 kilometres from the treatment plant to the junction of the Cobden – Port Campbell Road and Currells Road.

The temporary pipeline will connect to our South Otway pipeline which runs to our raw water storage in Dales Road Warrnambool.

Pipeline location

The temporary pipeline will run along the new access track from our water treatment plant to Lord Street.

It will continue along Lord Street to the sewer main. It will then extend along the sewer main to the Campbell’s Creek bridge on the Great Ocean Road.

The pipeline will then run below the bridge and along the side of the Cobden – Port Campbell Road through to Currells Road.

We’ll be using culverts and ramps to ensure the pipeline doesn’t interfere with traffic flow at driveways and other property access points.

Who will benefit?

The new bore will mean we can secure the water supply for Port Campbell, Peterborough and Timboon residents and businesses.
