Applying for a formal trade waste agreement
We suggest you speak to a suitably qualified plumber and find an EPA approved liquid waste contractor before you apply.
When you apply, we’ll ask you to provide information about your business, and the type and volume of waste it produces. This helps us decide how your trade waste should be managed.
You’ll need to provide details including:
- Your business type
- The type of waste produced
- The volume of waste produced
You’ll also need to confirm if pre-treatment devices have previously been installed at the premises. If you’re starting a new business, you must provide evidence that an appropriate pre-treatment device(s) have been installed (e.g. a plumber’s invoice for the work).
How are applications assessed?
We’ll assess all applications based on:
- The nature of the business and the risks it poses.
- The scale of trade waste being discharged.
- The composition of the trade waste.
- The opportunities for the re-use of reclaimed water and biosolids.
Further information is available in our Trade Waste Management Policy.
We’ll notify you when your application is approved.
Request an application
If you’re ready to apply for a Trade Waste Agreement then contact us on 1300 926 666 or email info@wannonwater.com.au to request an application form.
Updating your agreement
You can apply to change your pre-treatment device or its maintenance schedule. Requests must be supported with written advice from your certified liquid waste contractor. Email this to us at info@wannonwater.com.au
Cancelling your agreement
Please advise us if you have sold or if your business is closing down. We’ll cancel your agreement so you avoid any ongoing fees and reporting requirements.
If you have sold, the new owner will need to apply for their own trade waste agreement. You should clean your pre-treatment equipment at the scheduled time or on settlement.
If you are closing down, you should disconnect any pre-treatment equipment. However, be aware that some equipment may be connected to our sewer system, and that approval will be required to carry out plumbing work.
Fees and charges
See our prices and charges page.
Penalties
You may be subject to penalties if you discharge trade waste without an agreement or if you breach your agreement (e.g. failing to provide us with evidence that it has been maintained by an EPA approved liquid waste contractor). If you breach your agreement, we may also take further action so that we can protect our sewerage system. This could include disconnecting your property from the system, or legal action, or both
